Centre Congregational Church

We hope that you have found your way to our website because you are seeking a place to begin or continue your spiritual journey. If so, we would like to invite you to join us for one of our many activities and, most especially, for Sunday worship.
The May, 2012 Smithsonian Magazine rated Brattleboro #11 out of the top 20 Best Small Towns in America - Click here to read the article. If that weren’t enough, in March of 2013 Fodor’s picked Brattleboro as one of the 10 Best Small Towns in America - Click here to read that article.
We’d like to believe that in some small way, the presence and efforts of the Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro augments our town’s appeal - spiritually, aesthetically & by contributing to our community in a tangible way with our many outreach programs & our spectacular staff!
Centre Congregational Church is a member of the United Church of Christ and we have been serving God and God’s Children in the town of Brattleboro since our church was established in 1816. In our worship, we gather to hear uplifting music and thoughtful sermons, and take time for prayerful reflection.
In our programs for children, youth and adults, we come together to deepen our faith through study and build a caring community through fellowship. In our mission and outreach, we work to serve the wider community, the nation and the world.
Enjoy exploring our website. We pray that it will inspire you to call or visit us. We'd love to welcome you into the life of our congregation.

Minister: We are Currently Seeking a Settled Pastor

Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street, Bratttleboro, is pleased to announce that it has called the Rev. Bert W. Marshall to be its interim minister, beginning Sunday February 22.

Bert is no stranger to the Brattleboro area, having attended Vermont College of Norwich University here, and graduated from the Yale Divinity School in 1997.

Bert was born and raised in Nebraska and considers himself, in some ways, a product of the Plains.  He’s been a rock musician with his own band as a young man, and he drove an 18 wheel truck locally for ten years, before answering the call to become a minister.  Bert is very musical; writing and recording his own songs.  Also, he has memorized the entire Gospel of Mark, which he performs for churches and colleges around the country (www.gospelofmarkalive.com).

After graduation from seminary Bert served for nine years as the minister of the First Congregational Church of Lee Massachusetts.  Following that very successful pastorate he served up until now as the New England Regional Director for Church World Service (www.cwsglobal.org) an international development and relief agency.

In addition to his musical talent, which dovetails well with the musicality of our town, Bert is committed to the struggle for peace and justice locally and worldwide, and the congregation looks forward to working and growing under his leadership.

All are welcome to attend worship at Centre Church, an Open and Affirming Congregation.  Sunday services begin at 10 am and childcare is available.

In the meantime, the Council and Deacons will be continuing to coordinate Emergency Pastoral Care needs.
